Getting from Misawa Airport into Hachinohe — the bus does not stop at Hachinohe Station

Getting from Misawa Airport into Hachinohe — the bus does not stop at Hachinohe Station

Este articulo se muestra en English.

If you fly to Hachinohe, you land at Misawa Airport — not at Aomori Airport, which is on the other side of the prefecture. One connecting bus runs from Misawa into Hachinohe, and taking it is the right answer. There is just one trap in it.

That bus does not call at Hachinohe Station, where the Shinkansen stops. It terminates at Hon-Hachinohe Station and at Hachinohe Yokamachi downtown. Nvillage sits on the west side of Hachinohe Station, so every guest arriving by air changes once on the way. What follows is what I tell arriving guests, in the order I tell it.

Decide first: where you sleep decides where you get off

  • Staying downtown, near the bars → ride the connecting bus to Hon-Hachinohe Station or Hachinohe Yokamachi. No change of vehicle
  • Staying near Hachinohe Station (this is us) → ride to Hon-Hachinohe Station and change to the JR Hachinohe Line, or get off earlier at Misawa Station and take the Aoimori Railway
  • You want Hachinohe Station as fast as possible → get off early at Misawa Station and take the Aoimori Railway rather than riding to the end
  • No connecting bus on your flight, heavy bags, a group, or a late arrival → taxi. Taking one only as far as Misawa Station and continuing by rail costs less than riding the whole way. If you can plan ahead, a booked shared taxi is cheaper still

Walking directions for the last few hundred metres from the west exit are on our access page. Everything below is about the stretch between the airport and that station.

The connecting bus: route, time, fare

It is run by Towada Kanko Dentetsu. Heading towards Hachinohe the stops are Misawa Airport, Misawa City Hall, Misawa Station, Hi-Tech Park Iriguchi, Hon-Hachinohe Station, and Hachinohe Yokamachi. Airport to central Hachinohe takes roughly 55 minutes.

  • Fare, as of September 2026: 1,500 yen airport to Hon-Hachinohe Station or Hachinohe Yokamachi; 1,200 yen to Hi-Tech Park Iriguchi
  • Time: about 15 minutes airport to Misawa Station, about 55 minutes airport to central Hachinohe
  • Booking: none. Wait at the stop, board, pay
  • Not only for passengers: locals use it as an ordinary bus between Misawa and Hachinohe

The thing to understand is that the timetable is tied to the flights. There are only a few round trips a day, scheduled around arrivals and departures. So the bus time is not knowable until your flight is booked, and it moves whenever the airline schedule moves. That is why there are no departure times in this article. Once you have a flight, check it against the City of Hachinohe page on the airport bus or the City of Misawa page, both of which point at the operator's current timetable.

One more thing: if your flight is badly delayed, the bus will not necessarily wait. If you are booked on the last arrival of the day, know the taxi option before you leave home. Figures are further down.

If you are staying by Hachinohe Station, plan two legs

Guests heading for our side of town always have a second leg. Two ways to do it:

  • Get off at Hon-Hachinohe Station and take the JR Hachinohe Line to Hachinohe Station. Under ten minutes between the two, a few hundred yen
  • Get off at Misawa Station and take the Aoimori Railway to Hachinohe Station. Skips the downtown detour, and is faster when the connection lines up

Which is quicker swaps around depending on the day's flight and timetable. With heavy bags, a taxi from outside Hon-Hachinohe Station is a perfectly sensible third answer. If the idea of two stations with almost the same name is new to you, read the piece on Hachinohe Station versus Hon-Hachinohe first — they are about 6km apart.

One caution. The JR Hachinohe Line thins out at certain hours. Land at an awkward time and the next train may be half an hour away. Look up the departure before you get off the bus, so the choice between waiting and taking a taxi is made calmly rather than on the pavement.

In a hurry for Hachinohe Station: change to rail at Misawa

Even on a flight the bus does serve, if Hachinohe Station is where you are going it can be quicker to get off early at Misawa Station and take the train rather than ride to the end of the line. Airport to Misawa Station is about 15 minutes. Misawa is on the Aoimori Railway, and Hachinohe Station is around 20 minutes away for a little under 600 yen (September 2026 figures) — sometimes faster than staying on to Hon-Hachinohe and changing to the JR Hachinohe Line, because it skips the run through town.

The advantage is that trains run to their own timetable rather than to the flight schedule, so you choose your own onward departure instead of taking the one the flight gives you.

This only works if there is a bus to catch, though. If your flight has no connecting bus at all, then there is no ride to Misawa Station either, and this is not the answer — a taxi is. Misawa Station is a short hop from the airport and costs a good deal less than riding all the way to Hachinohe, so taxi to Misawa Station and train from there is the realistic fallback. With heavy bags or no particular hurry, taking the taxi the whole way is fine too.

Also worth knowing: the Aoimori Railway serves Hachinohe Station but not Hon-Hachinohe, which is on the JR Hachinohe Line. If you are staying downtown, taking the train from Misawa means changing again at Hachinohe Station — simpler to stay on the bus all the way to Hon-Hachinohe.

Taxis, and the shared taxi you have to book

Misawa Airport to Hachinohe Station is roughly 27km by road, 40 to 45 minutes by car. A regular metered taxi is the late-night, large-group, travelling-with-children answer.

Cheaper, if you can plan, is the booked shared taxi that runs between the airport and both Hachinohe Station and Hasshoku Center. As of September 2026 it is advertised at 4,800 yen per person to Hachinohe Station. It only runs on reservation, so treat it as something you arrange when you book the flight. Current details are on the airport's own site.

Renting a car at the airport also makes sense for some itineraries. You do not need one inside Hachinohe, but if Towada, Oirase or the Shimokita peninsula are on your list, picking up at Misawa and dropping off in Hachinohe is a reasonable shape. Check counter hours against your flight — they do not always line up.

The day you fly out: leave more margin than you think

The return is the harder direction. From the west side of Hachinohe Station your options are:

  • Hachinohe Station → JR Hachinohe Line to Hon-Hachinohe → walk to the bus stop → connecting bus to the airport
  • Hachinohe Station → Aoimori Railway to Misawa Station → connecting bus to the airport
  • Hachinohe Station → taxi the whole way, 40 to 45 minutes. The fallback for an early flight with no bus attached

A train and then a bus is one connection to make, and the bus half of it is tied to the flight schedule. We check departure times with guests the night before a flight, and the first flight of the day is the one to watch: it sometimes has no connecting bus at all, in which case a taxi booked the previous evening is the safe move.

Even with an early checkout, the washer and dryer can go on the night before. Repacking a clean bag at home beats sorting it out at the airport.

What kind of airport Misawa is

Worth knowing before you land, because it surprises people: the runway at Misawa is shared by the US Air Force base, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and civil aviation. It is the only airfield in Japan used by all three, and you may well see fighter aircraft from your window on approach.

The civil terminal is a small building in one corner of it. Small is good for the traveller: you are outside quickly on arrival, and security to gate is short on the way out. What it does not have is much in the way of shops or food. If you intend to buy gifts, do it at Hachinohe Station or Hasshoku Center rather than at the airport.

Haneda is the mainstay route; the others vary by season, as does frequency. Check the airport site for the schedule in your travel window before fixing an itinerary.

What I tell every guest arriving by air

  • The connecting bus does not go to Hachinohe Station. It goes to Hon-Hachinohe Station and Hachinohe Yokamachi
  • Its timetable follows the flights. Check it after your flight is booked, not before
  • Staying near Hachinohe Station means one change. Budget for a taxi if you land late
  • Going home means a train-to-bus connection. For the first flight of the day, arrange something the night before
  • The airport shop is small. Buy gifts in town

Where to go once you are here is on the area page, and what we can arrange is under experiences and the barrel sauna. Send us your arrival flight and we will work out which bus it connects with. Ask through the contact page, along with room availability.
